Description:
Bring a packed lunch, water and spending money in case you want to buy items at the pottery.
From Mill Street car park, we walk up Church Street and Church Road, through the church yard and then up Ridgebourne Road turning left into the parkland that skirts Ridgebourne House. Reaching Cutterbach Lane and turning right, uphill to eventually pick up the Offas Dyke path. Gaining height towards the monkey puzzle trees on Hergest Ridge where we can take in the view. From here we descend past the old racecourse before bearing left to Bage Common and down the lane to visit James Burnett-Stuart’s pottery at Lower Way Farm in the small picturesque hamlet of Lower Hergest. We will be treated to tea, coffee and cakes in the gardens, or in the barn if it’s raining, meet James and look round his studio. Lower Hergest artists and makers will have work on show alongside James’ glazed earthenware pots, all deliverable back to Kington if you want to buy something too heavy for your rucksack! We return to Kington via Castle Twts, descending through Park Wood and down Cutterbatch Lane.
