Kington Walks was established by a small group of local business people in 2011 to promote sustainable tourism and to help to preserve Kington's unique atmosphere with support from Herefordshire Council and Kington Town Council. We successfully applied for 'Walkers Are Welcome' status for the town in the same year. In 2020, Kington Walks became a registered charity with the sole purpose of promoting community participation in healthy recreation by encouraging and enabling people to participate in regular walks as a form of exercise in Kington and the surrounding area. Kington Walks committee is made up of enthusiastic walkers and people representing the local area.

Since 2023, as part of our role in supporting community involvement we set up Walking for Health (WfH), which runs weekly from March to November; providing an opportunity to meet, chat and walk with friendly people while enjoying the green open spaces Kington has to offer.

We also now undertake regular footpath maintenance work, from small beginnings in 2019 we now have a group of 10 volunteers who undertake vegetation clearance, stile repair or replacement with gates around the Kington area.

In 2025, we were awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the achievements of our 100+ volunteers who support Kington Walks in a variety of ways, enabling visitors to the town and local people of all abilities to enjoy and benefit from walking.

We would like to thank The Burton Hotel, Kington for providing us with a room for all our committee meetings during the year and for the Festival office during the September Festival.
