Kington Walks Footpath Team
The state of footpaths has declined over recent years and this is particularly true of those regarded as local community footpaths, as opposed to the “national” routes which still receive some support.
Kington Walks has set up a footpath maintenance group to reverse this decline and working closely with local landowners seek to improve the state of our footpaths and so enhance the experience of those who enjoy walking in our beautiful countryside. Currently we have a small group of volunteers who meet monthly from March to November. Thanks to the generosity of both Kington Walks and Kington Town Council we are reasonably well equipped.
Most of our work relates to vegetation clearance and repairs to stiles, focussing upon Kington’s 6 Great Walks and walks selected for our 2 annual Walking Festivals. Whilst our focus will remain on these, we now feel able to take on improvements to more of the footpaths in and close to Kington.
What we can achieve is limited by the number of volunteers we have, and yes, we are always looking for new helpers. If you would like to get involved please contact us by emailing footpaths@kingtonwalks.org. We would love to hear from you.
The Kington Walks Footpath Team have recently installed a couple of kissing gates to replace old styles on the Mortimer Trail at Green Lane Farm.
